Get a close-up look at the world of insects with a delightfully illustrated guide to the fascinating insects, bugs, arachnids, and other creatures that populate our planet by the billions.

Millions of species of insects fly, crawl, dig, swarm, and eat on every continent. Our very existence depends on them; without pollinators, we would have no food, and without decomposers, the world would be covered in decaying plant and animal material. With her signature style, Julia Rothman delves into this incredible world, uncovering amazing facts about bees, beetles, butterflies, and so much more.

Meet the Makers

You can find Julia Rothman's drawings on a variety of things: wallpaper, bedding, billboards, fabric, clothing, dishes, pillows, newspapers, magazines, books, subway posters, umbrellas, towels, mugs and more. She has authored/illustrated over seventeen books and hopes you might add some of them to your library.

With each book in her Anatomy series, illustrator Julia Rothman sets out to learn about the natural world, finding no limits to the flora, fauna, and phenomena that pique her curiosity. Perfect for the wonderer in all of us, each book is a deep dive into our planet’s many marvels.

Julia co-founded Women Who Draw, an open directory of female professional illustrators, artists and cartoonists with fellow illustrator Wendy MacNaughton. It was created in an effort to increase the visibility of female illustrators, emphasizing female illustrators of color, LBTQ+, and other minority groups of female illustrators.
