The first time I encountered a letter writing set was, you guessed it, in Japan! It was at Paper Message, my all time favorite stationery store. Not only did they have sets already packaged together but the shop had little cubbies filled with paper and envelopes that one could mix and match. Yesterday when my shop helper Phyllis and I were flipping through a binder with some old shop signage in it Phyllis exclaimed, "What is Zakka?" The reason she was asking this was because we hit the pile of these old brown paper signs that I made the first time I had a Zakka party. We had just returned from a trip to Japan and it was my first time shopping for goods to sell at the shop. It was a big test to see what kinds of products folks would be interested in purchasing. As a small business owner I pay close attention to other small businesses opening in my community even in the cases where maybe I am not necessarily drawn to what the shop is offering. I like to keep a pulse on what is happening in my city and I think watching others helps one learn and grow as a business owner. It will come as no surprise that we love art at Pink Moon Goods. And while art may not seem like a practical good I do believe it to be an imperative addition to any environment. One of the most beloved areas of the shop in Huffman is the area I call my "Not For Sale" wall that features all of the lovely art that I have acquired since opening my shop.
