Kata Kata

Kata Kata is a collaboration between two creative minds, Matsuyama Takeshi and Takai Chie. Since 2004 these two katazome artists have been producing dyed fabrics by stencil dyeing, dip-dyeing, and printing, and have exhibited their works at many exhibitions and group shows. Their tenugui hand towels, furoshiki, fuwa-fuwa towels and other miscellaneous goods featuring their unique images have gained popularity. Katazome is a Japanese method of dyeing fabrics using a resist paste applied through a stencil, typically a rice flour mixture applied with a brush or a tool such as a palette knife. The look of the images is unique when printed on these practical goods.
