In this day and age there are many options for reusable bags but none that bear the prestige of having existed in its current form since the 12th century like the Origami Bento Bag. This versatile bag is made using one piece of fabric cut into a long rectangle and sewn in a peculiar way that forms a flat bottom and two ties. The ties then become a handle which makes carrying it very convenient.
There is no real mystery here to using one. It works like a type of bucket with two ties to close it up. It can be used for grocery shopping, storing bread, carrying small items inside luggage (think toiletries), carrying one's lunchbox/container, as a reusable gift bag, or for carrying craft supplies like yarn. It is lightweight and easy to use. We make ours out of cotton or linen and in fun prints that add beauty into one's daily life.
The things I find most attractive about them is that they are made in this very economical way. Using only one long rectangle piece of fabric means there is little to no wasted unusable fabric scraps. They don't require any added closures which means there is nothing that can break. They have a flat bottom which makes them easy to load up. They also fold into a small flat bundle so they are easy to keep handy in your bigger bag to use at unexpected times. They are truly as simple and as natural as you can get.
In short, we love bento bags and hope you take an opportunity to acquaint yourself with them and add one into your life soon. Check out our newly added stock of handmade bento bags by clicking here!
