Why Shop Local and Small? Part Four: Discovery

I will always remember the first time someone came into my shop and said, "This reminds me of a shop in (enter a typical touristy town ie Gatlinburg)." I had to pause for a moment to think about what motivated the comment.

Isn't it true that when we travel there is an immediate sense of awe and discovery regarding the new and unknown? We travel to different parts of the country and world to have experiences that stand out from the everyday. Often this does mean discovering new shops and goods that we had not otherwise been exposed to.

In fact, the inception of Pink Moon Goods happened while my husband and I were traveling through New England for our honeymoon. In each little town we entered I would find a cute little shop with all of my favorite things. By the end of the trip I was determined to open a shop in Dayton that would be a place where folks could discover different and unique items they had not seen elsewhere. This thankfully has extended into my online shop as well.

I am motivated and determined to provide that experience for each and every one of you. I am constantly searching for exciting offerings, new ethical swaps and lifestyle switches that enhance your life, and goods that delight your senses. I get excited about the process and the reward of seeing your reactions is priceless.

I might also add that YOU all are helping me to discover lots of things about the world and life in general. Every conversation I have with a customer leads to insights and discoveries. It makes coming to work everyday more enjoyable than I have ever experienced.

While some of the other reasons to support small and local are a bit more tangible this one is really more of an emotional gut feeling.

When someone walks into my shop and I hear them sigh or say "ahhhhhh"...I know i hit the mark.

Thanks for reading my little series about why it's important to shop local and small.

But more importantly, thank you for shopping local and small.
