SALTVERK Arctic Thyme Salt

Saltverk's Arctic Thyme Salt is a flaky sea salt blend with arctic thyme, an herb unique to the sub-Arctic climates of Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. Its season is fleeting, blooming only for a few short weeks in the summertime. For Icelanders, the scent of arctic thyme evokes adventures in the Highlands and exploring the magnificent Icelandic countryside during the endless daylight of the Arctic summer. 

Tasting Notes: Arctic Thyme is in the family of thyme, but has a sweeter flavor and a lavender-like scent. When paired with flaky sea salt, it brings both herbaceousness and a true expression of the wild nature of Iceland to whatever you choose to create. All of Saltverk salts are crunchy, mineral-rich sea salts. The higher mineral content and flaky structure give each salt blend a rich flavor.

Meet the Makers

Saltverk makes sustainable flaky sea salt using only geothermal energy and the pure clean water of Iceland. Their salts have zero carbon footprint. They contain all of the natural minerality of the sea, and they are some of the cleanest in the world with no microplastics and industry-low heavy metal and lead levels. 

After finishing his studies, Saltverk Founder Björn Steinar Jónsson wanted to create something that honored and built upon traditional Icelandic food methods in a sustainable way. In 2011, Saltverk was founded and reestablished salt making in Iceland. Making sustainable, hand harvested products of high quality is the passion that has guided him along the way. Today, Saltverk salt is used in many of the best restaurants and in the homes of food enthusiasts around the world.
