Maruichikyu Daruma MT Washi Tape

The Maruichikyu Daruma MT Washi Tape features a row of colorful Daruma, some with only one eye filled in awaiting the stage of gratitude or completion. A Daruma is a traditional good luck figure in Japan. When you receive a new Daruma (usually papier-mâché) both of its large eyes are blank white. You then make a wish, or set a goal, and color in one eye - usually the left. When the wish comes true, or when you meet your goal, you will paint the other eye to show gratitude and completion. This tape is in the series of MT tape that features Japanese traditions.

Colorful and simple, washi tape can be torn by hand and is easy to reposition. The tape can be used on paper, objects and walls. Washi tape is ideal for temporary decoration, for tiny objects to entire rooms, and for ordinary or special occasions throughout the day, from sealing a lunch bag to making a wrapped gift look special.  Not only that but it is made from paper so it is biodegradable and compostable.

Meet the Makers

MT is the original brand of washi paper masking tape, created by the 100 year old paper adhesives company Kamoi Kakoshi and produced in Japan.   In 2006, the company offered a tour to three women in Tokyo who were using their industrial tapes for beautiful craft projects.  Amazed by this surprising and wonderful usage, Kamoi Kakoshi was inspired to develop an entirely new and original category of tape: MT brand washi tape.  The superior level of ‘just right’ adhesion allows MT to be easily repositioned on most objects and to be used on painted walls without damaging paint.
