Copper is a trace mineral that keeps the nervous and immune systems healthy, supports brain development, plus helps to make red blood cells and collagen. This straight handled cocktail spoon features a seamless design for easy, near-frictionless stirring, as well as durability over the long-run. The classic design of these pieces and warmth and style to any bar set up and is the ideal addition for entertaining at home.

Master artisans in this region of Mexico have been working with copper since pre-Hispanic times – particularly the Purepécha people. Their innovations in metallurgy allowed them to produce jewelry, tools, along with decorative and ceremonial pieces from materials that were extracted locally. Later, this area became an important smelting resource for Spain. Copper work remains an essential part of the local culture and economy. This particular workshop consists of 30 master makers and includes both women and men.

  • Approximately 9inches/24cm long
  • Due to the traditional processes and materials, the details, hues and finishes will vary slightly from piece to piece
  • Handwash only

These pieces are not lacquered, so they are food safe. That said, this means that the pieces will naturally tarnish with handling and exposure to moisture. To clean them, one can use simple kitchen staples like lemon with salt or baking soda or a specialized copper polishing cream. In order to maintain the integrity of the finish and material, these pieces cannot be washed in the dishwasher. They should be cleaned by hand with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, then dried thoroughly to keep them shiny. These spoons will naturally darken over time, as is the way with copper.

Meet the Makers
Founded in 2016, by Ehren Seeland, Hecho is a curated emporium of ethically made artisan works that serve as the intersection of contemporary design and traditional artisan processes. Ehren is committed to the recognition of a desire to share these remarkable experiences within the context of a sustainable business built on partnerships, respect and transparency.

Hecho is a woman-owned company based in Oaxaca, Mexico that collaborates with over 70 artisans in eight different Mexican states, along with two small towns in Guatemala, in order to create their custom collections. The goal of these efforts is to support the storied traditions of generations of makers, and further a growing movement of quality over quantity. There is an added focus on supporting women in their work, with over 65% of their artisan partners being female. To ensure safe and healthy working environments, the makers are visited in their homes and workshops. If the women artisans are not respected in either realm, Hecho will not work with the group. Hecho also strives to maintain a focus on visibility for artisans, supporting women in their work, and encouraging preservation of artisan art forms through positive shared revenue streams.
