Its greatest appeal is its excellent design, as symbolized by the fact that it was selected for the Good Design Award in 1993. But of course it is also a reliable and sturdy bowl useful for serving many things.
One fun feature of the hasami bowls are that the designs can be enjoyed both inside and out! They are larger and flatter than regular small rice or tea bowls, which makes them easy to stack when stored. It is very easy to hold, and can be used as a small bowl to serve side dishes or simmered dishes, and it also works great as a dessert or fruit bowl. It is truly the highest standard.

Meet the Makers
FSYM Color has been operating as a trading company specializing in ceramics since 1961 in Hasami Town, an old pottery town located almost in the center of the Nagasaki Prefecture of Japan. They handle a wide variety of Arita ware, including Hasami ware from local Hasami kilns and ceramic manufacturers, and have also developed products under their original brand, FYSM Color.
Hasami ware began in the Edo period when climbing kilns were built in three locations in Japan to fire pottery in large quantities. In the early days glazed pottery was produced, but as the raw materials for porcelain were discovered, porcelain with blue and white inscriptions began to be more prominent. Hasami-yaki has a history of over 400 years, but it has only become known as a type of pottery in recent years. Today, it has become a popular type of pottery that has a modern and stylish feel while still retaining a sense of tradition.
