Introducing the Enshu Cotton Tsumugi Striped Handkerchief. The look of each piece can only be achieved by slowly and carefully weaving on an old-fashioned shuttle loom which creates a gentle, enveloping quality that is different from the high-density fabrics woven on the latest mass-produced automatic looms. The fabric is soft and airy, and the more you use it, the more comfortable it feels against your skin.

Meet the Makers

The Enshu region, where Hamamatsu City is located in Shizuoka Prefecture, is blessed with a warm climate and rich nature, making it suitable for cotton production, and since the Edo period it has flourished as one of the three major cotton producing areas, along with Mikawa and Senshu. It can be said that Enshu Cotton Tsumugi has become the foundation of industry in Hamamatsu and Japan. Making use of colors that evoke a sense of Japan, more than 1,000 striped patterns have been invented to date. The "warmth" born from the handiwork of artisans has been passed down from person to person through the ages.

Nukumori Koubou would like to protect and preserve these traditional methods of Enshu Cotton Tsumugi. Enshu Cotton Tsumugi is highly durable and has supported people's lives as everyday clothing. They want it to be a fabric that weaves the thoughts of artisans, connects with people's lives, and weaves the future.
